Grain removal
Soybeans remove large quantities of phosphorus and potassium from the soil. Grain removal alone can remove 0.90 lbs. of phosphorus and 1.5 lbs. of potassium per bushel of soybeans. That's why it's important to supply soybean fields with enough phosphorus and potassium to ensure that soybeans are getting appropriate amounts of nutrients. Soybeans also require approximately 4.2 lbs. of nitrogen per bushel of soybeans. However, because the soybean plant is a legume, it produces its own nitrogen through rhizobium bacteria.
