About MFA
MFA Incorporated is built upon a solid commitment to its farmer/owners--providing quality products and services, embracing honesty in business and offering professional advice that farmers can depend on.
MFA is a cooperative built by farmers for farmers. Our board of directors, all MFA farmer/owners, keeps us in tune with the needs of our more than 45,000 members.
And because our purpose is to serve farmers, you will find the heart of our operations at our Agri Services Centers providing farmers and ranchers with the products and services they need to do business in production agriculture.
Products and services To deliver these products and services efficiently, and to navigate in today's complex agribusiness world, MFA has formed innovative joint ventures and partnerships. For the same reason, MFA Incorporated created MFA Enterprises to acquire businesses that are not structured as cooperatives. These efforts give MFA a customer base that extends beyond its members. Profits from these ventures help build net worth, improve our ability to react to market opportunities, and help make a stronger and more diverse company--all factors that bring benefits back to our members.
Combined, our core business, subsidiaries and joint ventures deliver sales of about three-quarters of a billion dollars annually.
Sales include a battery of performance products such as MFA feed. We are a primary manufacturer of livestock feed, holding a major market share within our trade territory.
We're also suppliers and marketers of plant food and crop protection products. Our fertilizer terminals on the Mississippi River as well as facilities on the Missouri and Arkansas rivers help us get products to our members efficiently. And continued expansion helps bring our commodities to a larger market.
Over the years, we have developed business relationships with major crop protection companies making MFA a full line supplier of name brand products for all the major row crops and most specialty crops.
And growers can find a full line of top-notch rowcrop and forage seed at MFA. Our proprietary seeds compete at the top of the market. In addition, we work with national suppliers to deliver a wide spectrum of the latest seed technology.
Innovation and expertise Backing our products and service is state-of-the-art research. We track the latest in agronomy and animal nutrition research with trials throughout our territory.
At MFA, programs like our Agricultural Systems Information Lab blend the latest research and technology with MFA's dedication to service. Through precision agriculture and our employees' expertise, the lab finds site-specific solutions that increase profits for local producers.
Increasing profits and power in the market is the driving force behind our swine and beef marketing programs. Producers participating in MFA's Health Track Beef Alliance are industry leaders in health and nutrition programs. In today's market, with packers paying premiums for quality, that means producers in MFA livestock alliances take home more profits.
The real power behind our products and innovative service is the people at MFA. We are committed to providing our employees with continuous training to keep them at the forefront of the industry. Moreover, our frontline, local Agri Services Center employees are supported by a staff of agronomists, veterinarians, nutritionists, engineers and financial consultants at our corporate office in Columbia, Mo. They are just a phone call away and make frequent visits to the country in support of local operations.
Communication with our members To keep our members informed, we offer educational programs for producers. These programs deliver the latest in agronomic and livestock news as well as explaining the operations of the cooperative. In the spirit of keeping the membership informed, MFA prints Today's Farmer, a magazine devoted to agriculture in our trade area, as well as various newsletters and bulletins. We harness the power of the Internet by providing members another way to communicate with their cooperative and retail stores.
Looking to the future As proud as we are of what we are, MFA will not settle for success in today's market. We're looking to the future. One place to build the future is with today's youth. Each year, the MFA Foundation awards about 300 scholarships to high school seniors. These rural youth will be the lifeblood and talent pool for agriculture for years to come.
We take a proactive approach in environmental issues, encouraging good farming practices and directing tremendous resources to ensure our facilities are safe and environmentally sound. We believe that being a good corporate citizen is critical in our short-term and long-term relationship with both farmer/owners and the public at large.
Roots to our past In short, at MFA we still live by the principles set forth by our founder William Hirth. We believe that strong corporate support is vital to each local Agri Services Center. We believe in timely communication with our farmer/owners. We believe in the importance of service. Above all, we believe that MFA is successful as a company only when our individual farmer/owners achieve success in their operations as well.
